Are you ready for the European Championships?
This August, Glasgow will co-host the inaugural European Championships with Berlin. To be staged every four years, the European Championships will be a new highlight on the global sporting calendar. More than 3,000 athletes will travel to Scotland, while 1,500 athletes will compete in Berlin. Glasgow will host Aquatics, Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics, Rowing and Triathlon, and Berlin will host the Athletics.
In March 2017, I applied to be a volunteer with Glasgow 2018. I felt inspired to become a volunteer as I had been in London during the 2012 Olympic Games and had attended track events at the Commonwealth Games so therefore witnessed first hand the valuable work that the volunteers do to keep the games running smoothly.
With over 10,000 applicants for various roles during the championships I knew it wouldn’t be easy to get the chance of a role so I was obviously delighted to be offered a role with the Protocol Team in March this year.
I’ll be based with the European Diving Teams at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh for 6 days, starting on August 7th.
To celebrate my role, I’ve put together this “diving” themed Pilates exercise sequence consisting of Rolling Like a Ball, Open Leg Rocker and Teaser. These rolling back type exercises stimulate the spine, deeply work the abs and require lots of balance and precision. You’ll see these moves performed by the professional divers without the luxury of a mat to fall back on!
Try the sequence out and see how many times you can do each move.
